Are elected or to be elected board members required to live in the state where the homeowner association is? The association is located in Pennsylvania, and one of the board members (presently the VP) is seeking to become the next president of the association in the upcoming elections.

This is one of the best mind

This is one of the best mind provoking questions I can think of. I live in a condominium so the rules are a little different but not much. It was never like this but it has gotten so the majority of the people that live here are showbirds. This time of the year we are lucky if we even have a board member around. I think an even better question is "Are elected or to be elected board members required to live in the condominium where they occupy the status of a board member YEAR ROUND? Out condo has had numerous problems with these so called board members just not being around. Last summer they had NO BUDGET for the people that live here. It is really something to give some thought to. The disqusting President that everyone loves here is nowhere to be found and the other Board Members are gone too. What I find hard to believe is that this condo is in Florida and DOES NOT even have a hurricaine preparedness plan. Now I am starting to think about this I am getting mad. They are not "part time" Board Members. They are not Board Members that have no responsibility because they are away. How do these things that call themselves Board Members and have not lived her long enough to even get a feel of how the condominium is run during the summer, how many people are here, and what we can do to make things easier. I know the old kick back of "well if you don't like it why don't you run?" I don't run because I have no time and I flat out don't want to. These Board Members are there because THEY WANT TO BE THERE. Where the person is a resident and Board Member should be their homestead and I truly believe that. They will know more about the problems and needs of the people. They buy here as a party place to come to when it is cold up north and have fun and leave. It is no wonder there is a lack of interest when problems arise.

Truthfully, I think that it is fine for them to go on vacations and other things normal people do but they really should consider the residents. Not that I want to see any of them because I don't but my position on this is YES. Board members are becoming less and less accountable and that needs to change.

Thanks for the excellent comment.
